# Why the price you see on Blinkit is not the price: MRP, pack and pin code

The price on a quick-commerce app is one price for one pack at one pin code at one moment, shown beside the MRP printed on the pack. Before you call it the price, check the pack size, the pin code, the time, and whether a discount is a passing campaign or a lasting move.

## Key takeaways

- The price on a quick-commerce app is one pack, one place and one moment, shown beside the MRP.
- Different stores, short campaigns, pack sizes and apps all move a price without any error.
- Compare the same pack at the same pin code and time before you call a gap real.
- A price reading shows what was displayed. It cannot show who funded a discount or why it moved.

This post is the timely take. The evergreen how-to is the guide [Discount depth: reading the gap between selling price and MRP](https://rewalto.com/guides/discount-depth), which covers the topic in full.

## What does the price on a quick-commerce app actually show?

A selling price for one pack, shown beside the MRP printed on that pack, for the address the shopper set and the moment they looked. The struck-through figure is the [MRP](https://rewalto.com/glossary/quick-commerce#mrp), the highest price a retailer may charge in India, and the figure beside it is what the app is charging now.

It is not a price for the brand, for a city or for a day. Treat it as one reading of one pack in one place, and it stays useful. Treat it as the price and it will be contradicted the next time someone looks from a different pin code.

## Why can the same product show different prices?

Several things move a price without any change in the product. The app assigns a different dark store to a different address. Campaigns switch on and off for a few hours. Each pack size is a separate listing with its own MRP. And Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart each set their own price for the same pack.

The scale is large. On 27 October 2026 alone, Rewalto took 76,791 Blinkit price readings across 196 pin codes ([Blinkit data](https://rewalto.com/data/commerce/blinkit), measured 28 October 2026). Each one is a price for one pack at one pin code at one moment, so the same product can carry several prices on the same day.

These differences do not necessarily indicate an error. A reading shows the displayed price, but it cannot establish the reason for a change.

## How do you avoid a false price gap?

Most gaps that vanish under scrutiny come from comparing things that were never alike. Four checks remove most of them:

- Compare the same pack: check the weight in the title, not only the product name.
- Compare the same place and time: note the pin code and when each price was read.
- Check the MRP against your own price list, since a wrong MRP distorts every discount worked out from it.
- Compare the price per unit or per hundred grams when packs differ, and say so.

## What should you say to a category manager about a price?

Bring a dated capture and name the pack, the pin code and the time. Ask what is behind the price before you say what you think is behind it. A buyer will engage with a dated reading far more readily than with a claim, and a calm question keeps the next conversation open. Our post on the [key-account buyer review pack](https://rewalto.com/blog/key-account-buyer-review-pack) covers what to put in front of a buyer and what a capture cannot say about cause.

## What can a price reading not tell you?

Who funded a discount, why a price moved, or whether it changed demand. It shows that a price was displayed, not what caused it or what it did to sales. The guide to [discount depth](https://rewalto.com/guides/discount-depth) shows how to work out the gap to MRP and read it without over-claiming.

Rewalto reads Blinkit's public search results by pin code and keeps each product's price, MRP, discount and stock with the time it was read. The [Blinkit data page](https://rewalto.com/data/commerce/blinkit) shows what is held and when it was last measured.

## Quick answers

### Why is the Blinkit price different from the MRP?

The MRP is the maximum printed on the pack. An app may sell below it, and the price can differ by store, pack size, campaign and time.

### Is Zepto or Blinkit cheaper?

Neither is cheaper everywhere. The same pack can differ by pin code, store and time, so compare the same pack at the same pin code and time before calling a gap real.

### Can a retailer charge more than the MRP?

No. In India the MRP printed on a packaged product is the highest price a retailer may charge, and it includes taxes. Retailers may sell below it.

### Why does a price change during the day?

Apps run short campaigns and stock changes by store, so a price can move within hours. A dated series shows whether a move was a one-off or a pattern, and each reading shows what was displayed.
