# What is price parity? Meaning and how to check it

Price parity means a product sells at the same price, or within an agreed band, across the apps and stores that carry it. Check it by matching the exact product and pack on each app, reading the selling price on the same day and at the same pin code, and comparing the gaps.

The short definition, also called price consistency across channels: Keeping the same product at consistent prices across the places it is sold. A brand with parity does not undercut its own retailers or its own site.

## What price parity means

A brand sells the same pack through marketplaces, quick-commerce apps, its own website and shops. Price parity is the aim that a shopper sees one price, or close to it, wherever they look. Large gaps send shoppers to the lowest-priced channel and upset the retailers who are undercut.

Parity is about the selling price, not the MRP. The MRP is printed on the pack and is the same everywhere; the selling price is what each app charges after its own discount.

## How to check price parity

First match the product exactly: same item, same pack size, same variant. Then read each app's selling price on the same day, at the same pin code where prices vary by location. The gap is each price minus the reference price, as a percentage of the reference.

A worked example, with invented numbers. A face wash has an MRP of 300. It sells for 270 on App A, 255 on App B and 270 on the brand's own site. Taking 270 as the reference, App B is 15 lower, a gap of about 5.6%. If the agreed band is 5%, App B is outside it.

## How it shows up in India

Marketplaces change prices often through sales and bank offers, while quick-commerce apps price by city and sometimes by store. Coupons and card offers applied at checkout are not part of the listed price, so compare listed selling prices unless you can read the final price on every app the same way.

## What a brand should check

- That every comparison uses the same pack size and variant.
- Prices read on the same day, and at the same pin code on quick-commerce apps.
- Which seller set the price on a marketplace, since resellers may price differently from you.
- How long a gap lasts, not only how large it is.

## Common mistakes

- Comparing a 200 g pack on one app with a 250 g pack on another.
- Comparing a sale-day price on one app with an ordinary day on another.
- Treating a gap against the MRP as a parity gap.

## Do not confuse with

- [Price gap](https://rewalto.com/glossary/quick-commerce/price-gap): Price parity is the aim: the same price, or a price inside an agreed band, everywhere. A price gap is the measured difference for the same pack between two places.

## What Rewalto's own readings show

As of 28 October 2026, Rewalto had read 2,80,56,623 prices for 6,93,930 products on 18 platforms. It does not publish a parity score: a fair score needs the same product matched on every platform and read on the same day.
