Use case ยท Ratings and reviews

Ratings and reviews, tracked day by day.

Ratings and review counts move sales, and a brand should be able to see them move across apps. Rewalto offers them as the ratings over time dataset: each productโ€™s star rating, rating count and review count per retailer and pin code, kept as a daily change log. Review text is never stored.

A rating is a moving number, and nobody watches it

A productโ€™s average rating and review count sit on its page. When the rating slips from 4.4 to 4.1, or a batch of low ratings arrives after a bad lot, the first person to notice is usually a shopper. On a marketplace that can cost the product its place in the results.

Checking by hand across apps and products is not something a team can keep up. The ratings over time dataset does it: a row is written on each day a productโ€™s rating, rating count or review count changes, so the history reads as a change log.

01 ยท Counters

Rating and counts

Average rating, how many rated, how many wrote a review.

02 ยท Over time

By day, per app

A moving number is only useful with a date on it.

03 ยท Proof

The source

The page address and time behind every reading.

How it works

  1. STEP 1

    You choose the products

Choose a retailer, then narrow by the retailer's product ID, pin code and date range.

  2. STEP 2

    We read the counters

From the product pages and search results Rewalto already reads, we record the rating and the number of ratings and reviews, with the time of the reading.

  3. STEP 3

    You see what moved

A row for each day a rating or a count changed, on which app, with its date. The counters only. We do not store what reviewers wrote.

The shape of a ratings record

This table is an illustration, not real readings. It shows the kind of columns the ratings over time dataset returns. For real records, open the dataset.

An illustration, not real readings. A product with no reviews shows no rating, never a zero.

Rules we hold to

The same rules apply to every ratings record.

A missing rating is not a zero

A product with no reviews has no rating. We show it as none, not as a low score.

Counters, not the text of reviews

Review text is somebody's writing and is rights-gated. We record counters and when they were read.

No sentiment score

A single sentiment number hides what was said. We keep to what can be counted and checked.

What we measure today, and what we do not offer

Each row says what the ratings over time dataset carries.

What Rewalto measures today for this use case, and what is still in build
WhatStatus todayWhat that means
Rating, rating count and review countLiveIn the ratings over time dataset, per retailer, product ID, pin code and day.
Rating history by app and dayLiveA row on each day a rating or a count changed. A history only exists once a product has been read on more than one day.
Star spreadNot offeredThe dataset carries the average rating and the two counts, not the spread across one to five stars.
Review textNot offeredRights-gated. We do not store or sell what reviewers wrote.
Sentiment scores by attributeNot offeredNot now. It would need the review text, and the rights for it.

Where to go next

Questions before you start

Does Rewalto track ratings and reviews today?

Yes, as the ratings over time dataset. It keeps each product's star rating, rating count and review count per retailer and pin code, with a row on every day one of them changed. The dataset page shows its coverage, freshness and rate.

What do you record?

Only the counters on the product page: the average rating, how many people rated and how many wrote a review, per product, retailer, pin code and day, with the time each reading was checked.

Will you read and score the review text?

Not now. The words in a review belong to the person who wrote them and to the retailer's page, so we do not store them or sell sentiment scores. If that changes it will be because the rights are cleared, and we will say so here first.

How do I get the data?

Open the ratings over time dataset, choose a retailer and narrow by product ID, pin code and dates. The same records come through the dashboard, the API, the command line tool or an agent, and only delivered data is charged.

Can I check one product for free?

Yes. The free rating snapshot shows one product's current rating, rating count and review count on one app, as today's reading only. For how a rating changed over time, use the dataset.
