Glossary

The words your brand meets on Indian shopping apps.

Rewalto has two plain-English glossaries for Indian brand teams: quick commerce terms such as dark store, fill rate, MRP and share of shelf, and e-commerce terms such as Buy Box, RTO and COD. Each term has a short definition, an Indian example and what to check on your own products.

Questions before you start

What is in the glossary?

Two glossaries: quick commerce terms and e-commerce and marketplace terms, each with an Indian example.

Where is the dark store definition?

In the blog post "What is a dark store?" at rewalto.com/blog/what-is-a-dark-store.

Are the definitions specific to India?

Yes. Examples use Indian apps, MRP rules and pin codes.

Look at your own products by pin code.

See where your products are missing, mispriced or out of stock, with the date beside each reading.

PUT THE EVIDENCE TO WORK

Use the right definition for the question

Quick commerce: place and time matter

Start with the quick-commerce glossary when discussing dark stores, pin codes, listing availability and search position. These terms describe different parts of the shopping journey. A listed product, an available product and a product visible in search are not interchangeable observations.

E-commerce: compare the same measure

Use the e-commerce glossary for pricing, marketplace operations and fulfilment vocabulary. Read the definition and example before comparing two figures. A commercial term can have a platform-specific meaning, so retain the source definition when using it in a report.

Take the definition into the evidence

After choosing a term, follow the linked guide to see how to check it. Write down the product, location, platform and observation period. This turns a shared vocabulary into a measurement brief that another person can reproduce and evaluate.
