Discount percentage calculator
Discount percentage is the gap between MRP and the selling price, divided by MRP, times 100. A product with an MRP of Rs 200 sold at Rs 150 has a discount of 25%. Enter both prices below and the answer appears as you type, in your browser. For discounts across quick-commerce apps, read the discount depth guide.
- FORMULA
- (MRP minus price) divided by MRP, times 100
- RUNS
- in your browser; nothing is sent
Worked example
Discount % = (MRP minus selling price) divided by MRP, times 100.
- Take the MRP printed on the pack: Rs 200.
- Subtract the selling price: Rs 200 minus Rs 150 is Rs 50 off.
- Divide by the MRP: 50 divided by 200 is 0.25.
- Multiply by 100: the discount is 25%.
A brand reading discounts across quick-commerce apps measures the same gap at scale; the discount depth guide shows how to read it across apps and pin codes.
Questions before you start
How do I calculate discount percentage?
Take the MRP minus the selling price, divide by the MRP, and multiply by 100. An MRP of Rs 200 sold at Rs 150 is a 25% discount.
Is the discount on a shopping app counted from MRP?
Usually, but not always. Most apps show the discount against the MRP on the pack; some compare against an earlier price of their own. Read the label next to the discount to see which one it uses.
What if the selling price is above MRP?
Then there is no discount, so the calculator says so instead of showing a negative number. For packaged goods in India the MRP is the most a seller may charge, so a price above it is worth checking.
Need discounts measured across apps, not one at a time?
This calculator works out one discount from two numbers you type. The price parity checker reads a brand’s selling price against MRP on each quick-commerce app from Rewalto’s own dated readings.
